Do-Me-Se-Me-Do.
SEME. LOL.
(anime joke)
I’d really just rather read a million ledger lines.
In high school, marching band was my thing. I marched Flute, was a drill captain and Drum Major and uniform crew captain and you name it. Best times of my life, marching band.
But then I get to college. I marched Alto Sax because I’m really not a fan of Piccolo. It’s about ten times hotter where I go to college, and Saxophone is heavy (I admit, I am a wimp). Our uniforms were stiff. It was hot. The upperclassmen are possibly the most annoying people I have ever met. We got a new director (Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE our director. But nothing ran smoothly). It was hot. The football games felt like they were never going to end. There was little productivity in our way too long rehearsals. Sections typically kept to themselves. It was hot. We were never informed of events until maybe two days before. And did I mention it was hot?
The only good thing about the whole experience was my section. Probably the greatest group of people I had ever met.
But overall, marching band was terrible, and I’m extremely happy I don’t have to deal with it this semester. If it wasn’t required for my major, I wouldn’t be in it next year.
I do blame half of my misery on the fact that I hated playing Saxophone (I’m not hating on the instrument; It was just awkward and a pain to march with). As much as I now would love to switch to Piccolo or Clarinet, I just would hate leaving my section because I think they’re are the absolute best. I’m at such a loss.
I hoping so much that next year will be a better experience though. I plan on trying out for Drum Major in March. Wish me luck!
Such as the end of my marching band rant. Message me about your marching band experiences, college or high school :D I’d love to hear about them!
